Hello, I’m Cindy and I’m a 47 year old woman with HS disease.
This is my story…
My symptoms started when I was in in my early 20’s, and it took another 15 years before a family doctor diagnosed me with the condition. I am still able to work watching children, but have to do so from home. The HS in my groin area prevents me from doing anything else. The pain I’d describe as very bad, and I have to take Tylenol 1-3 times a day because of it. I’m not on any medication currently for my HS because nothing has helped, but I’m hoping to find out about Humira and if it’s available in Alberta, Canada.
I’ve also encountered several other challenges dealing with my HS like not being able to exercise. It hurts to walk, sleep or sit and the leakage is bad. I’m not really able to manage my HS. It’s very painful and I get stressed and depressed about it. I have tried everything under the sun to help me from laser treatments to creams to surgery.
I’ve had lots of HS sores removed where the wounds had to be left open and packed so they could heal from the inside out; I just had one removed at the beginning of January. I went to the hospital because of a lesion that opened about an inch wide that I became worried about. The doctors said that it should heal on its own and instead cut out a different one on the other side. Well today is Feb 27th, and it’s still open and heavily leaks so it must be covered by a bandage at all times.
There are 3 stages involved with HS and I’m in Stage 2 and 3 at the moment. I usually stay there as the ones in my groin don’t go away anymore. If I could grant a person newly diagnosed with HS a wish it would be to learn that plastic surgery is an option. I just found that out and I’m hoping to get my groin operated on soon. I think my life would be very different without HS. I’d be able to exercise and lose the weight I gained after quitting smoking. I wouldn’t be ashamed to let my husband see me and maybe I’d have a sex life again.
